Green Cars

In the previous blog, I talked about how eating “Green Food and Drinks” helps with your diets. Now lets talk about a different fuel, car fuel. In todays world, we can’t live without gasoline, since it provides the energy for you to go from your house to work. Unfortunately, we can’t just stop using gasoline and switch, even with some setting ambitious goals for net zero by 2050. At least, not yet.

Traffic jam on a busy highway leaves car idle, wasting energy and adding to the pollution of the Earth through gas emissions, though not seen to the naked eye in the image.

Renewable Fuel: Cost

Of course, we can technically stop using gasoline and switch to different sources. The probelm is switching long-term. Some people, who have good intentions for the planet, decide to stop using gasoline and instead go electric. However, it feels like almost everything wants them to go back to gasoline. The price, the maintenance, the charging stations, all screaming to use gasoline again. So one thing to do is to properly researching the type of car you want to buy, hybrid or electric. Make sure that you can cover the down payment, plus the monthly/yearly payment and interest. One neat trick is to ask yourself, “Can I pay off this car if the interest, recurring payment, and down payment is doubled?” If the answer is yes, then you are most likely able to afford the car.

Green Thinking

Now, if you thinking about/already bought an electric car, you need to know if there are charging spots on where you live and where you work. If not, your not really helping the planet, and your not helping yourself. After all, whats the point of buying an electric car if you can’t even drive it? Electric cars dont need gasoline. They instead directly get their energy from electricty stations. Now whether the charging stations themselves are green is an entirely different question (and blog), but for now you are reducing your carbon imprint by a significant amount, roughly 2/3 less than if you were using a gas or diesel car (Is it Really Green?, by Georgina Wilson-Powell). Of course, if you can’t afford an electric car, try walking or bicycling to work, if it’s close, and finding shortcuts to limit how much pollution you put out into the air, for moderate to long rides. You could even do plogging, helping your body, your neighborhood, and Earth.

Renewable Fuel: Natural Gas

Another fuel source that can be used is “natural gas”. As the name suggests, it is gas that is “natural” and it is an alternative to using gasoline. However, to make natural gas, it requires a process. Like gasoline, it is a fossil fuel, and is made of decomposing plant and animals being exposed to high heat and pressure under the surface of Earth over millions of years. This basically means that natural gas takes millions of years to form. Since it is non-renewable, it is considered a fossil fuel. However, it does produce less carbon dioxide into the air, so if you can’t go completely clean at first, going halfway will definitely show the change. Especially at the global scale.

  1. It’s a great point of view about the opportunities for be save and let a better planet to our children. Today is the day for actions. Green thinking should be a way of life, leaving with the commitment to help our Mother Earth. Great job

  2. Dear Rony,

Very well explained, love your points of view! Definitely every single step to help take care of our Mather Nature is important, they could be small changes that we do in our every day life or big changes! Everything counts!
It was a pleasure reading your post!
