Green Food, Green Drink

It’s no doubt that in today’s markets, a good chunk of all food and drinks aren’t “basic”. There are some famous brands like Coca-Cola, McDonalds, and Gatorade, each with different types of stuff on the menu for different needs. In the US, we usually have been lectured to be careful about what we drink and eat, one of which is to measure our intake of calories, and some of us struggle with that as is. However, how we choose to buy the products can affect our health, and the Earth’s health.

Green Food

One way to go green is to cut down on meat-heavy meals, adding more plants to your diet, and just eating less in general. According to a book called “Is It Really Green?”,(By Georgina Wilson-Powell) another way to go green on food is to be vegan, which can help reduce emissions that humans make by up to 37%. Now I know that may sound outrageous, or at the very least improbable because you need protein in order to survive, right? Well actually, it turns out that humans get an average of 30% more protein than needed if they eat normally. So does this mean that if you switch to vegan you are free from protein problems? Not necessarily. Like all diets, you need to be careful on how and where you get your protein, and since you can get it without needing to eat fat-protein meats.

Green Drinks

It’s not surprising that alot of drinks that we order/have aren’t exactly healthy to the human body. After all, after a workout, you might be tempted to buy a soda or sugary drink. You might feel like you are rewarding yourself, but really your only putting back the calories you took out, and more. One way is to just buy and drink bottles of water, as it is the best and “naturalest” drink on planet Earth (Yes, I know “naturalest” is not a word). However, if you really crave a drink, then go for those that don’t have high fructose corn syrup. Another is making sure that if you do drink unhealthy, try to keep your consumption to moderate or light, to make sure no harmful side effects happen (You could also, again, avoid them altogether, further improving your health and your life).

  1. Food deserts suck, poor neighborhoods are forced to deal with food deserts all the time. They literally get used to eating fast food and then they don’t look for alternatives and it affects their health and the environment.
